Hike at Gunlock Lake....

After Church my daughter Lottie and her three boys and my son's boy came over and we went for a hike over at Gunlock Lake.  We didn't expect it to be so cold, but after walking for awhile we warmed up.

The boys (Trestan and Alex) kept throwing rocks at the water which was frozen.  It took throwing a boulder they both lifted up together to get it to break the ice.  You can see where people have thrown rocks.  When the water melts they will all disappear to the bottom.
Tiah walked on the ice a bit, which I was not happy about at all.  She finally broke through, luckily close to the shore, but couldn't get herself out.  Luckily the boys were able to yank her out by her collar.  She didn't go back, she learned a tough lesson.  Scared me to death.

You can tell where the water is frozen and where it's not.  Water is lower than I've ever seen it.  Hopefully with more rain and run off from the mountains in the spring it will fill back up.
We had a flock of geese fly over us.  We heard a gunshot boom, and the geese got real quiet for a moment then they started honking again.  Luckily we didn't see anyone of them fall from the sky.  Damn hunters.

It didn't even dawn on us that there would be snow.  It's only 6 miles from my house.
Saw this rock formation in the distance and was able to zoom into it.  Cool looking!
Reminds me of the tree of life.  Beautiful!
 My daughter Lottie.
My beautiful little girl.  She had a ball hiking around.  She hasn't left the couch since we got home. She has her head on my lap right now. Tuckered out....

I'm so glad the boys were there to help Tiah out! Yep, I would have been scared too! It's fun to throw rocks to try to break the ice...but the ice is too thick here now for that.

My heart was in my throat when you said Tiah broke through the ice...so glad they could get her out. I love that rock formation. And that tree is pretty awesome...

The boys just can't make themselves put on long pants, can they? Over the holidays, I saw a man at a grocery store in nylon gym shorts with a honking jacket on and it was 17 degrees outside with the wind blowing like crazy. Looks like you guys had a great outing. I'm so glad your family joins you for them.

I'm glad Tiah is safe and sound, it gives me chills to think what could have happened. Your photos are always so beautiful, I love the red rock formation you zoomed in on. Take care and enjoy your week!

Looks like a great hike for the afternoon with your family, and what gorgeous scenery. Having problems getting you loaded on my feedly so I can find you and see your posts more readily. For some reason you are not available on that. Will keep trying.
