Tragedy in Hilldale

We've had quite a lot of rain here in the southwest desert.  Unfortunately heavy, heavy rain has been falling in a small town called Hildale / Colorado City.  Not to far from where I live.  About 40 miles away.  It is a polygamous town that exists between Utah and Arizona.  It's very well known here, because they shop here, go to the doctor here, work here, and are just part of our population here.  The women wear the same hairstyle, and the same style of dress.  Even during the summer they wear long dresses.  The little girls dresses may be a bit shorter, but they have long pants underneath. The men all wear long sleeved shirts all year round.  They are very guarded and don't look you in the eye if you see them.  I always smile, but seldom get a reaction.  The children will shyly look at you and smile.  To those people who visit or are not familiar with our area, will look at them and wonder who they are.  Since the FLDS so called prophet Warren Jeffs has been jailed, the people have been less unfriendly and more apt to smile at you.  Right now they have confirmed 12 people are dead from this flood.  It's Short Creek that has flooded.  Most of those dead are children.  There have been 2 people that were hiking in Zions National Park that have been found dead.  There could be more.
The saying around here is "Turn Around, Don't Drown". Unfortunately these people were caught unawares.  I pray for them....

Oh how awful! :( Praying that Heavenly Father will strengthen them. And that they will feel His peace and comfort.

Will pray for the weather to calm too.
Take care, Janet W

Such a tragedy. We had some terrible flooding here in Texas last spring and early summer. Lives were lost in those floods as well. So sorry and it is heartbreaking.

Big Texas Hugs,

Oh, this is terrible. I know how what seems like a little rain can do major damage out there. Stay safe, yourself, dear girl.

Were the hikers caught in the Narrows at Zion, or somewhere else? Or do you know?

How sad the rain has caused so many deaths. I did't realize Warren Jeffs was in jail. How did I miss that?

Thanks for sharing some insight into this tragedy. We feel for all of the people who have been affected by flooding in beautiful Southern Utah - a place our family holds very dear!

So scary to be in this sort of flooding. Sounds like an interesting cult, and probably harder to get help when you are out in an isolated area.
