Creepy....

They, burrow into the ground and stay there for 10 to 17 years.  Well this year I have holes all over my backyard and cicada shells stuck to everything.  So gross in my opinion.  The picture of the adult cicada I got from google images.  These things sound like buzz saws or loud electrical lines.  It's loud in my backyard right now.

They are very interesting and I actually love the sound that they make. We get those periodically at our cabin

Oh, they are so annoying. Funny story. Several years ago I was driving home from Birmingham, AL to Florida and I kept hearing this funny buzzing noise. It was so bad I thought something was wrong with my car. I stopped in Montgomery at my brother's house. There were tons of cicadas perched on the trees there. After a visit, I headed on home. Got a ways down the road still hearing that nasty noise. I stopped at DQ for a treat and when I got out of the car, the cicadas were so loud you could hardly hear yourself think. Then I realized I'd been hearing them the whole way and it was worse when the road got nearer trees and better in more open spaces. Was very thankful.

Oh, as kids we used to take the cicada shells and play with them. They were our "cows" or whatever animal in our little pens.

When I was a kid I used to see lots of exoskeletons but you know, I haven't seen any for a long. long time. Hmmm.

10-17 years? What? That's crazy. Oh, if I were you, I'd avoid the back yard for a while. :0
