The face of depression.....

When I heard of the death of Robin Williams it took my breath away.  I felt so saddened.  Especially since it seems personal.  He has a home here in St. George, and has been seen in the grocery store, riding his bicycle around town and at the movie theater.  Even seen at the Walmart.  But to tell you the truth I was not surprised.  I knew his depression had gotten the best of him.  It does that you know, at times it's just so hopeless you just can't function one more minute.  My heart goes out to him.  I know many people are shocked to hear that he had depression.  How could someone that animated and funny have depression?  Truthfully, the more funny, sarcastic and animated a person may seem is only the surface, that person's method of coping with an illness that is so debilitating.  I know that I've been told many times that a person had no idea that I had depression because of my sense of humor. It's my way of coping and laughing at myself.  I knew that Robin had many dark moments, and had problems with addiction at times in his life. All I can say is bless his heart, and I know our loving Heavenly Father will take him in his arms, and welcome him home.

We will all miss you Robin.

Hi Susan, I was sad to learn of his death. Perhaps, his battle with depression will bring more awareness to our country. He will really be missed.

Very sad indeed. And for sure he was a very special person with a wit that showed how deeply he felt about things. His humour spoke to many of us because he was able to touch our hearts. For sure he will be missed.

Susan, I've been wondering how you are doing, since we haven't heard from you in a while. It is so sad to see anyone fall to depression, such a treacherous disease.

I did not know that Robin Williams had a home in St. George. He was always one of my favorites ~ he just seemed like such a nice guy. So very sad that he lost this battle with depression. It is also scary for those of us who sometimes fight that same battle. Robin will be missed for sure. RIP.

It is so sad that this brilliant man suffered so much that he felt he couldn't live any longer. His eyes look sad in many of his photos, including this one. He will be greatly missed. Take care and hugs to you and Tiah!

I, too suffer from depression. Such a horrible disease. I pray every day for God to take this pain away. People say, "just snap out of it". Oh, if only it were that easy. I hope your depression goes away.

We need to be kind to everyone. You never know the battle they are fighting within.

Thanks, Susan for sharing. Yes, know first hand how to wear that mask. Hope you are feeling better. I know having the boys there helps.

I will miss this gifted man. He brought me many smiles and laughs in his movies. I heard today that his wife said he was in the early stages of Parkinson's, another burden for him to carry along with depression and staying sober.
