Native Californian....

I was born and raised in Southern California.  In fact I lived there for 43 years.  When I went through my second divorce, I moved to Utah to be near my retired parents.  These fires that are burning are nothing new.  The Santa Ana Winds are a big pain in the neck.  Not only do you feel like you are living in dryer, but they make you cranky and when there are fires, well, the pictures are worth a million words.
I've lived through countless earthquakes, some really bad ones.  I lived through the floods in the winter, and fires.  The fires usually happen in the fall.  I've driven by fires licking my tires as I get to work.  I've had a friend lose her home to a wild fire.  I worked for the Registrar of Voters when I lived in California.  I've driven through fires to get to Palm Springs to calculate votes on voting day, we've moved polling places because fires threatened them.  Even through it all, I love Southern California.  I don't miss the traffic, but I miss the beach, my life long friends there, and believe it or not, the fog.  Something very quiet and peaceful about fog.  Hell of a thing to drive through, but walking through it is awesome!  God bless the rugged people of California.  You gotta be tough to live there.  Hang in there, these fires will pass and the Santa Ana's will calm down.  They always do.

I can understand how you feel about living through those kind of things - you are a strong person and it reflects who you are...

but IMO

I dont think people realize the impact the fire has afterwards for those who live in more rural areas, where there is no city, county, state home owners associations for cleanup nor any funding like fema -

its living with injured, dead and dying animals all around you for weeks on end, and theres no one to help. just you.

thats the hard part.

Seems s early in the year for the fires. Fires are never good but the earliness makes me worry about the rest of the year.
