I took off work today and.....

This is what I did.  I built this planter and planted these salvias.

The vine I planted last week was dug up the next day by Tiah.  Totally destroyed.  So today I planted another one that is starting to leaf out.
This is a daylily and a macopa.  The daylily is supposed to bloom all summer.  I hope so.
The salvia that I planted.  Just a few minutes ago, Tiah dug one up.  I'm hoping I saved it, but I was so mad I put her in her dog pen.  Right now I'm ready to give her away.  It just doesn't matter what I do, she ruins it.  The vine she destroyed cost me $14.00.  I paid another 17.98 today for another one.  I am determined to have something in my backyard that I can enjoy.  My grass is crap, so why not flowers?  Anyone with a tip for me to keep her from digging everything up?  At least before she dies a untimely death?  Okay, I wouldn't hurt her, but I'm really stressed about this.

I'm so glad you took a day off for you! Your flowers and vine are beautiful! I love the all!

I've heard moth balls and/or mouse traps but I bet Tex has a better idea!

There isn't a way that I know of. Diggers will always dig. You could put a fence around it, but that defeats the purpose of having a lovely flower bed to look at. Maybe just hang your flowers where she can't reach them?

Sarah's dog used to dig...but he stopped so there is hope. I don't know if she did something to get him to stop or he he outgrew it. When he was digging he was about Tiah's age or just a bit older. She just left...has to make a stop or two on the way home, but will try to think after while if she did anything to stop him or if he just outgrew it.

He was like Tiah, though...really, really rough on stuff. I cannot even think of all he destroyed, but he is worth his weight in gold.

Will say this, I think Tiah is plenty smart enough...I just can't see this being a lifetime habit.

ooohhhhhh Susan, I have no idea!! My boys always ruined all my flowers with soccer balls and skate boards!! Most day lilies blooms all summer, especially the yellow, Stella de Ora's. some of the real speciality colors don't bloom as often but are just as beautiful!! Be sure to dead head them, they will preform better!!

What a wonderful way to spend your day off. Digging in the dirt in the sunshine. Love it!

When we had a dog, what he didn't dig up he would pee on and that kills the plants, too. :) The only idea I can come up with would be to place big rocks around everything, not the small gravel size. Maybe that would deter them. I put some larger rocks in flower pots to keep my cats from digging and pooping in them. LOL! Ah, pets...can't live with them and ya can't live without them!
