Where's the knowledge......?

I was listening to a talk by a man I admire very much.  While he was talking I heard "Where's the knowledge I have lost in information?"
A light bulb went on in my mind.  I have been questioning certain things in my life, you know the usual, which diet should I go on, which vitamins are the best, which ones should I take, should I take a probiotic, should I join a gym, should I just walk, am I feeding my dog the right food for her, are my cleaning products doing a good enough job, should I be using Lysol spray, blah, blah, blah....... On TV every commercial they show, makes you wonder.  I read about herbal remedies, I read about vitamins, teas, water, and on and on.
When I heard this statement I thought, YEP that's me, I'm lost.  My knowledge has been lost in to much information.  Whoa!  Soooooo, I'm gonna do my best to simplify.  Commercials will get the mute button, and I'm gonna follow my gut instincts about what is best for me.  Now I'm not advocating not studying something out to learn more.  We should, but I believe that the busyness of life, the many things that bombard us each day need to be put away or at least put in perspective.  I for one am tired of being overwhelmed with information.  I need to gain knowledge and then make a decision.
Does this make any sense to you?  What are you bombarded with that you have lost the knowledge with to much information?

it makes a lot of sense. commercials, infomercials, ads on the web. they come across so strongly and contradict one another with 'newest studies', 'latest findings', whatever. you can build up your stress w/ trying to figure out how to take care of yourself. :)

I so agree with this. I know that I feel a need to simplify my life when it comes to the amount of information and stimulus I take in daily, but it is a challenge to do so. Being overwhelmed seems to have become a natural state for us now. I feel that more and more. Thanks for the inspiration to tone things down, trust my own feelings and simplify life.

I've been feeling overwhelmed by things in the media lately... the secular media... actually, the secular world in general. From the conspiracy theory about the Newtown shootings, gun control, abortions, Obama being a socialist & everything else... it's getting scary out there!

Remember that song from a looong time ago... 'One day at a time, sweet Jesus... that's all I'm asking from you!' I try to keep that in mind throughout every day.

We live in a day and age of advertising overload...we are absolutely bombarded!

It makes total sense to me, Susan. When it comes to commercials (and politicians, I might add), I am a skeptic. Companies want our money and most will do and say just about anything to get it. Just saying.

I've stopped watching the news. My stress levels went down about half what they were pre election. I't hard to make a solid educated decision about anything when everyone is hollering their opinion at you all day long.

Definitely TMI around. Makes it difficult to make decisions.

Makes sense to me. I feel bombarded by info from drug companies. Many times in the last few months, I know of prescriptions who have made my loved ones worse. It's like dr.s are encouraged to write more scripts regardless of the outcome!

Oh, my, yes!!! Why not try turning the TV off unless its time for something that you really want to watch? And, then mute those commercials, too. After, they're in the business of trying to sell you something, whether you need it or not. DH is going to be away this week and I am SO excited. I love my alone time at home and I haven't had it for a while.

We are all truly overloaded with information -- most of which is utterly useless.

I posted above before reading all the earlier comments, and I could not agree more with all that has been said!! I won't get on my soapbox, but, boy could I!!!

Deb, please don't be ashamed for being out of the loop if that's what makes you happy.

I do understand what you mean. I tend to not even pay attention to commercials, and infomercials I just think of as someone trying to get my money. I guess I tend to question everything and only trust what I know for sure.
