Flooding today here....

When I woke this morning it was raining.  At noon it was still raining and raining hard.  Not long after noon I started receiving reports at work of flooding.  That Ivins and Santa Clara had been hit hardest and were closed off.  I thought - great - how am I getting home.  Well lucky for me I was able to get home, but not after I took some pictures of the flooding.  The area above and below is usually dry land.  It looks like a lake now.

The clouds are low on the mountains.

This is the Santa Clara River.  When you see pictures of this, it's usually a small stream.  Well today it's been a raging river.  This is low compared to other times, but still angry looking.

Most of the washes and streams filled up with water and became rushing rivers.  One in particular burst a dam that truthfully I didn't really realize was a dam.    The water and mud went through a gas station and....
 across the street....
into a field that usually has a wonderful garden in it.  The bent over fence poles above is where the owner sections off the field from his yard.
The water then went across another street...
 into another field....
and across another road and it looks like it probably went into that house.
At the arrows is where the dam used to be.  This was as close as I could get.
BUT, some beauty has come from the unusual rains we've had this summer.  Flowers that no one has seen before are coming up.  Blue flowers, yellow, all kinds of plant life that has probably lain dormant for who knows how long.
The desert is so green and beautiful

Unfortunately more rain is expected tonight.  If it really rains and rains like it has,
there will be more problems to deal with I'm afraid.

I think we need to find a mad scientist that can figure out a way to turn the rain on and off like a sprinkler and only turn it on when and where it is needed. Well after all we put a man on the moon and now a rover on Mars, let's do something useful here.

I heard there were evacuations up your way due to a dam burst. Hope you are OK and didn't have to be evacuated. Incredible pictures. I love Southern Utah, even when "Mother Nature" lets loose. Stay safe!

I am grateful you arrived home safely. Do you have to go in today? If so, please be careful.

I hadn't heard about the flooding.
I'm so sorry!
Glad that you made it home safely, and hopefully, the rains will subside.

Oh, Susan, these are awesome pics...some of the ones with the fog coming over the mountains reminds me of Tennessee when it rains and the fogs comes.

Oh my- that looks scary. I hope you don't live to close to flood prone area. The last two shots are so pretty- the mountains almost look purple.
